what affect did the setting have on the characters?

this novel takes place in the 1950's and this is right after world war 2. The laws back then and the laws now have changed quite a bit. There is many things that Holden did back then that i would not be able to do now for example Holden smokes cigarettes, drinks alcohol, and even bought a stripper one night. If i were to do that i would get is lot's of trouble. this proves that the setting back then had a big impact on the characters.

what do you think of the ending?

In J.D. Salinger's book the Catcher in the Rye the ending demonstrates a secret of Holden's maturity. This is because Holden wants to branch off and live with himself. When Holden say's that he wanted to be the Cather in the Rye i think that the audience knew why the book was called that and helps them to understand who Holden really is. In conclusion i really enjoyed the ending of this book and it was interesting reading it.

how do you feel about the characters?

i liked Holden for many reasons. Holden was a very weird person and kept to himself a lot. Holden dislikes many people and tries to stay away from them as much ass possible. Phoebe is Holden's younger sister and she is very nice. Phoebe and Holden have a very strong bond and care for each other a lot. Robert Ackley is Holden's bunk buddy at Pency prep and i like him but i think that he is a very gross person and he has terribly hygiene. I really enjoyed the characters in this novel and Holden is my favourite because he reminds me of a typical teenager.

how is it important to the plot of the story?

The setting in this novel is very is very important to the plot of the novel in many ways. Catcher in the Rye takes place during the late 1940's. First off Pency Prep is a very different high school compared to the high schools today. Pency Prep has very odd rules like you can skip and you can be late to class without any consequences, today if you skip or if you are late you will be in trouble and you will have to pay the consequences. I feel that this giving the students bad habbits.
